Music Editing Software Can Create Sweet Sounds

March 31st, 2008 by advicestore

Recently, I received a CD from my friend, George. The CD was full of songs he had mixed himself on his laptop. I was expecting to hear a CD full of music that sounded hacked together since he used cheap music editing software. However, when I listened to the CD, I was stunned by the quality he was able to achieve even though he did not use any professional equipment.

Since George is a part-time Disc jockey at an underground club in Los Angeles, I knew that the CD would contain a nice mix of tunes. The only evidence I noticed that it was not a professionally mixed CD was the presence of a few blank spots in between some songs on the CD. This was probably something to do with the music editing software he used to create the CD, but other than that the music did not sound different from something that had been manufactured by a professional in a studio.

The realm of music is changing due to advancing technology. Consumers these days have more control over what they listen to and how they acquire music. Many people have iPods and other kinds of musical playing device, so people are become more accustomed to being able to have greater freedom over the music they listen to. Several years ago, people had to create mix tapes of their favorite songs by pressing a tape recorder up to a radio speaker. Modern music lovers have easy access to a computer and music editing software that enables them to create better mix CD’s of their favorite music.

People also have a variety of choices on selecting the appropriate music editing software that will match their specific needs. DJs and professional musicians are investing in editing software that has more features, so that they are able to edit music according to their professional needs. For the average person, an inexpensive music editing software that has minimum features is enough to satisfy that person’s musical cravings. Technology has really come along way in helping people enjoy products like the excellent quality of music that is possible through the amazing music editing software.

Eliminate Debt - Without Wasting Your Time

March 31st, 2008 by advicestore

Having problems with debt can be embarrassing, and consequently, people tend to keep their predicament a secret. Whether you have overextended yourself buying a house, and now have mortgage payments you can’t afford, or have a number of maxed out credit cards, you may have chosen to keep this information private. Unfortunately, this is not usually the best strategy for getting out of debt. Before you can get out of debt, you need to be honest with yourself and admit that your debt is getting out of control. Facing the problem is the most important, but also the easiest step in regaining control of your finances.

For most people who find themselves deep in debt, professional help of some kind is necessary to get back on track. One good place to seek help is the lender who services your debt. Most lenders are eager to solve the problem early, rather than having to resort to taking legal action later. Lenders can help you solve your debt problems in a number of ways. They can temporarily suspend payments to help you catch up on a delinquent account, work out a different payment plan, or completely restructure your loan. Credit card companies will often be willing to help you get your finances on track and get back on a timely payment schedule.

Another place to find debt help is on the internet. Many companies offer debt consolidation and credit repair services to help you regain control of your debts. Normally you will get either a single loan consolidating all of your outstanding debts, or pay a credit consolidation company directly who in turn will pay your creditors. When you are working with a professional credit consolidation company, some lenders will even suspend interest charges to your account because you are making an earnest attempt to remedy your debt issues.

When deciding to utilize the services of a debt relief or credit repair company, be sure to first check them out with the Better Business Bureau. Avoid offers that sound too good to be true, and be wary of potential scams. By law, companies that offer credit repair services cannot charge you until service is complete, and are prohibited from making misleading claims regarding their services. You must also be given a three day waiting period during which you can back out of the agreement. Finally, be aware that just because an organization is designated a non-profit does not mean that their services are entirely free. There will still be some kind of fee associated with the service.

Many companies offering credit repair services cannot deliver what they promise. Almost all of the services they provide are things that the consumer can do on their own. By law, each of the three national credit reporting agencies must provide you a copy of your credit report upon request once a year. Credit reports often contain inaccurate items, and by law, the credit reporting agency must remove inaccuracies within 30 days. In cases where particular items are in dispute, the burden of proof rests with the company who reported the item to prove that the information is correct. Avoid credit repair companies that require payment up front, advise you not to contact the credit agencies directly, or propose that you create a new credit identity by applying for an Employer Identification Number to use in place of a Social Security number.

Whether you use professional assistance to get out of debt and improve your credit, or you decide to tackle the problem yourself, it is vital that you identify what caused the debt and credit problems in the first place. Take a close look at your credit report and you can begin to identify a pattern of credit use. Perhaps you have a number of open credit accounts that you don’t use, or even worse, many accounts that are maxed out. Once you have eliminated any erroneous credit entries and are working to correct legitimate negative items, you need to construct a budget that allows you to live within your means. Use credit wisely and sparingly, and begin to set some money aside to cover future expenses. Continue to be vigilant so that you never again fall into the trap of excessive debt.

Gregg Pennington writes articles on a number of topics including loans, debt and credit. For more information about debt help and credit repair visit: www.onlinemoneysources.net/debt-and-credit.html http://www.onlinemoneysources.net/debt-and-credit.html

New Technical Writer: Avoiding The Interview-writing Disconnect

March 31st, 2008 by advicestore

OVERVIEW

Lost or garbled information is a terrible waste. Especially if it’s the information you gathered from an interview and must now write into your User Document. Here’s how to prevent that waste.

THE SITUATION

You had an interview with a Subject Matter Expert (SME, someone who has the information that you need) for your product. He/she told you all that you needed to know. However, by the time you got to write the material into the User Document, you have forgotten much of what was discussed. Your notes only help a bit. This loss or garbling the information from the SME that you need for your writing is the Interview-Writing Disconnect.

SOLUTION

The solution is divided into three components: Preparation Before the Interview, Actions During, and Following the Interview.

TIP: If possible, schedule the interview as close to the time that you are going to write that part of the User Document. The longer you wait between the interview and the writing, the more difficult it will be to recall the content.

Before the Interview

* Your guiding principle is to Be Prepared. You should have read what you can about the product, its environment, who will use it, and what they (usually) want to do with the product.

Know as much as you can before the interview. The more you know about the product, the better off you will be in the interview.

* Specify the goals of the interview. Share this information with the SME. Do this in an e-mail before the interview.

* Ask the SME if you can (audio; video is too obtrusive) record the interview. Get a recorder (preferably a digital recorder) and make sure it is set up to function properly during the interview.

* Gather any other materials you will need for the interview.

* Set up your recorder, etc quickly when the meeting begins.

* (You might want to practice taking legible notes…I sure need to)

THE HARDEST PART

Leave your ego at the door. (This is really hard.) Don’t make signs that indicate that you understand something that you do not. Ask questions, get the explanation that you need. Here is something to tell the SME:

If I ask what sounds like a stupid question, bear in mind that I am acting based on the knowledge that our User has.

DURING THE INTERVIEW

Record the interview (if permitted).

Start with some overview questions, such as:

* What is this portion of the product (topic) called?

* How does this topic fit in to the product?

* What is this (portion of the product) used for?

* When would someone use this (unless it is obvious )?

* What has to be set up before the User can use this part of the product?

* Any other conditions about when this would be used, or when it would be avoided?

After you have the background information, then move on to the actual operation of the part of the product. Ask any questions that you have prepared and any others that come up in the interview.

Remember, if you do not understand something, ask.

Ask some summary questions. Review the steps that you took, saying them out loud in your own words (especially if you are recording the session). Have the SME correct any mistakes that you make.

Ask if there is any related information to this topic. Are there any tips or traps using this part of the product?

MORE ABOUT RECORDING INFORMATION

If the SME points to a part of the product (such as a window in a piece of software, or the control panel of a barbecue) then say out loud what the SME is pointing to. Say something like we are looking at the main address book window or we are looking at the main burner control. This will enable you to link what is happening in the interview with the audio tape.

If the SME performs an operation, say what it is. You just entered the new person’s name, and the ‘New Card’ window appeared. Or You just turned the burner control to the ‘Light’ position, and now the igniter is clicking, and there’s the flame.

Take notes as well as you can. But do not let any of your activity get in the way of the interview. It’s not a good idea to keep stopping the SME while you catch up with your note taking. You will have the audio recording to fall back on.

The SME might provide handouts for the interview. If you are allowed to, take notes on the handouts. The goal is to link your audio recording and notes and handouts together. For example, if the SME provides a screen print for a software product, you should link your notes, audio recording and the handout together by reading the title of the handout aloud. Do it as unobtrusively as possible.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

As soon as possible after the interview, you must go over your notes and handouts. If possible, this should be done within minutes of the end of the interview. Find a quiet place (perhaps you have access to the interview room after the interview) and go over your notes.

Review your notes and add clarification to them. When you add the material to the notes do it with enough detail so that someone who was not at the meeting will be able to understand it. That person is you in even a day or two!

As soon as you can get to it, take the expanded notes and write them into a draft of that part of the User Document. That should be within a day or two of the interview, if possible. Every minute’s delay adds to the disconnect between what you learned in the meeting and what you write.

Let your draft sit for a day or so, then review and revise it for clarity and completeness. Consider sending the reviewed and revised version of the draft to the SME for comments. (You only want comments on the material, not on grammar.)

Schedule time for this writing, even if you are juggling several writing projects. The time you save in not having to recall the information at a later date will be a good investment.

THE BOTTOM LINE

You can avoid or reduce the effects of the Interview-Writing Disconnect by being prepared before the interview, asking questions and taking effective notes during the interview, and reviewing and writing the material as soon after the interview as possible.

How To Go About Finding Cheap Computers

March 31st, 2008 by advicestore

Almost everyone knows what a computer is and how to use its basic functions. Some people have their own desktop computers or laptops. Those who do not own a computer may still be able to use one by renting or using the ones in public libraries. However, there are cheap computers that are now available in the market, so it is possible that everyone and their grandmothers will be able to afford it. Computers are really amazing. The technology has evolved so much through the years. A lot of things can be done with the newest models that were not possible on the machines which were the “top of the line” a few decades ago. Give or take a few years from now, the current computers will be phased out and replaced by a more stable, more feature-packed machine.

A few years ago computers were very expensive. One unit of a desktop computer in 1998 cost about $1,600. That’s a lot. Fast forward to the present. The computers in 1998 are nothing compared to the models that we have now. The machines are faster, more durable, and capable of multitasking. Imagine doing so much in so little time! To top it all off, the cost is definitely worth the product. Nowadays, cheap computers are very easy to find. Promo packages as low as $300 are not impossible to find. In fact, they are all over! You might think that cheap computers are not as good as the high-end ones, but that is not the case. You get the same functionality, durability and technology at a very inexpensive price. But where do you find such cheap computers? Stores like Circuit City and Best Buy offer packages that are very inexpensive. However, there is a cheaper alternative - shop online! There are a lot of online stores that sell either promo packages or individual hardware parts for you to assemble. Of course, that is up to you. You purchase a machine that is tailored to your own needs.

These days, owning a computer is essential. There isn’t any industry that does not make use of this technology. Computers aid in learning and working. The world is a much smaller place now because of computers and the internet. There are just countless of benefits you can get from one single machine. And it does not cost much. Cheap computers are now available online. That is functionality and information within your reach.

The Heart Of A Servantleader

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

The bible exhorts us to gird our hearts with all diligence, for it is out of it that the issues of life flow (Prov 4: 23). Whether you are talking about jealousy, hatred insecurity or malice, they all spring from the heart. There is no doubt then that the heart is what makes a leader. Our character is normally formed by what we allow in our hearts, if you allow negative things about people in your heart the next thing that automatically happens is that you begin resenting those people.

The bible says that God searches the reins and the heart, though men look at the outside but our God looks at the heart. That is why when it came to appointing a leader for Israel men went for looks and chose Saul- he was quite outstanding, but when Gods turn came, he chose a young ruddy boy that had been even rejected by His own father .He had been relegated to taking care of the sheep-very unlikely, there was nothing about him that made him look like he could amount to any leadership position, yet God says ‘ He is man after my own heart’.

It is important for us to realize that God looks at the heart in any leader before endorsing him for any leader ship position, I mean consider Esau and Jacob, the bible says that Esau had all the looks for greatness –hairy and a man of the fields in addition to this he was a cunning hunter -no wonder his father loved him, he was his symbol of success, he was one of those kids that parents are normally proud of, Jacob on the other hand was, weak, smooth, and timid (mamas boy always in the tents) that out of a mothers love for a child, you know mothers don’t always have a choice when it comes to loving their kids, whether the kid turns out to be a criminal or a junkie a mother will still love her child, no wonder when God wants to refer us to his unconditional love He refers us to the love of a mother.

Any way someone who didn’t love him because of what he had or was but one that loved unconditionally just like our God has loved all of us unconditionally loved Jacob.

Despite Esau’s qualification, even before he could prove himself in life God says “Jacob have I loved but Esau I have hated.”

Friends it is all about the heart, God is not moved by being exceptionally gifted, your background or qualifications, He is moved by what is in your heart, He says, “I will desire mercy and not sacrifice”.

I have been studying God’s choice of a leader and it still amazes me. It is not that God looks for the perfect, for if you consider the above examples you will realize that the people God chose were still human beings and part from their insufficiencies they had human frailties, they were weak people, Jacob was a liar, David had a weakness for women, I mean if it is talking about perfect, they were imperfect, but the bible says, that God has chosen the weak things of this life to shame the wise. We need to realize that God is looking for people who are pure in heart, people who are broken in spirit, people who have a contrite spirit.

Our heart is the well spring of life, when we contain things like insecurities, hatred, being inhuman, not being considerate to other people, choosing who to love…it is such little things that reveal what is hidden in our hearts. God normally looks for how we react to small things; it speaks volumes on what is stored in our hearts. Saul was a man full of insecurities, he couldn’t allow other people that God was raising under him to grow, he chased after David with the intention to take his life, as a leader, are you insecure in your position that you have been unable to multiply yourself? Insecurity is a bad thing because as you refuse to help other people Grow that God has placed under you, God will still raise them any way. Esau on the other hand was a very selfish person, He could do anything to get what he wanted, I mean look here he is asked for his father to get something in order to get His blessings and the worst part about his story is that he didn’t even consider his young brother, Jacob, he wanted the blessings only to himself. God hated him right from the womb, he always wanted to be first, even coming out of the mothers’ womb, he strode past his brother, God hates people who only think about themselves. As God is raising you into a leader, please allow him to do a deeper work in your heart, let him give you a servant’s heart. May God hold this testimony about you that, you are man after his own heart, man who is moved by what moves him!

If you consider our leaders today, God is looking for unselfish leaders who are not preoccupied with their own interests but the interest of other people as well. For instance our country of Kenya has on several occasions been a victim of greedy leaders, we have had enough scandals that have fleeced a once magnificent country, It is very had in our African countries to find faultless political leaders who have an impeccable record, leaders who can stir our nations to posterity, but I believe that God is about to bring to notoriety, leaders after his own heart that He has been preparing in secret.

We also need today spiritual leaders in Africa who would rather have God than have anything. As God is bringing the continent to a place of prominence spiritually, he is about to reveal leaders who have the character of Christ embedded in their being. Leaders with a servant’s heart

Computer Scrapbooks

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

When digital cameras were first released on the market, everyone was excited. Finally, here was an easy way to take and store photos. No more would our closets be plagued with boxes and envelopes housing a hodgepodge of unorganized photographs. What we didn’t realize was that soon, our computers would be filled with a hodgepodge of unorganized photographs.

The explosion of home computers and the Internet has led to an increased need for people to organize computer scrapbooks. It’s easy to accumulate literally thousands of digital pictures, and it’s just as easy to get them all mixed up. Try finding a favorite photo as you’re scanning through a list of numbers and letters. Creating computer scrapbooks makes it quick and easy to locate the photographs, as soon as you want to see them.

When preparing your computer scrapbooks, the first step should always be renaming your photos. You should use file names that are easy to understand and organize, rather than keeping the default names set by your digital photography software. Anyone who has used a digital camera or camera phone knows just how hard it can be to decipher the file names, let alone selecting the photographs. Proper titles listed in computer scrapbooks make it easy to remember which pictures you have.

One key point to remember is that all of your computer scrapbook files will be sorted in alphabetical order. This can get confusing, particularly if you’re naming pictures by date. Rather than call your photos ‘January10′, ‘April21′ etc, use the numerical format year, month and then day. Those same files will now be called 20050110Baby and 20050421Baby. In doing so, your computer will display them in the correct date order for you.

After your photo files have been renamed, you need to create folders to store the different types of photo files. Try organizing your computer scrapbooks by subject, theme or occasion. This will allow you to find your photos much easier later on. For example, create a folder called ‘Baby Pictures’ and save all of your baby photographs in that folder. By setting up and following a naming system, you’ll soon have the most well organized computer scrapbooks around.

Whether or not you print your digital photos, always create backups of all your computer scrapbook files. There are many archiving programs that can be used to compress large files, enabling them to be stored on a CD or other removable disk. It is essential that you label your CDs to keep your computer scrapbook backups as organized as the originals. You can write the title on the CD itself, but you should also remember to alter the name of the CD as read by the computer. Most CD writing software automatically prompts you to give the CD a title, but check the instructions before you start the burning process so you, and your computer, will be able to clearly identify the CDs.

Digital cameras make it easy to take and save pictures. Computer scrapbooks make it easy to find the pictures anytime you’re ready to take a trip down memory lane or share the digital images with your friends.

Tips On Removing Facial Hair

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

Facial hair can be embarrassing for women especially if it is darker than the surrounding skin. You want to always look your best, but it’s tough to put your best face forward when it is covered in facial hair.

How much your facial hair bothers you is a personal choice. You can go all out and reshape the eyebrows, remove hair from inside the nose and remove hair from the chin, lips, and face.

Is shaving truly the best method of removing unwanted facial hair? It is certainly the most used method by men. A whole industry has arisen around shaving; gels, shaving creams, after shave, and the vast array of shavers available, all designed to reduce skin trauma and irritation from shaving. Shaving may work for men, but for women it really isn’t much of an option. In fact, some men are even seeking an alternate method for removing hair from the face.

When women have excess facial hair, it is usually along the upper lip and on the chin. So what is the best method for removal? Plucking is not a good choice because it would take forever and it is painful. Are there any methods of hair removal acceptable for use on the face?

Depilatories are one option although probably not the best. They are however an inexpensive short term hair removal option. The downside is that they contain harsh chemicals which can burn and irritate the skin, so car must be taken when using depilatories. Since only the visible hair is removed by being dissolved, the process is short lived and must be repeated often.

Electrolysis and laser are the best options. These methods remove hair permanently by damaging the base of the hair follicle so the hair just stops growing. The options are quite pricey and are long procedures to undergo.

Waxing combines the best of the two methods above and is quickly becoming the hair removal method of choice by both men and women. Waxing pulls the hair out by the root just like tweezing. The hair will grow back, but it will take quite a long time. Waxing is inexpensive and you can do it yourself at home if you need to.

And there you have it, a few good methods of removing unwanted facial hair. If all else fails, see your doctor for recommendations.

Window Cornice

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

Article: Learning the basics to making a wooden window cornice

Most people are familiar with window treatments, but many people may not be familiar with an upholstered wooden window cornice. Individuals familiar with wooden window cornices may have long desired the know how to be able to create a customized wooden window cornice.

Step by step instructions are now available online for people wishing to create a wooden cornice, while saving hundreds of dollars by doing it themselves.

Prior to coming up with the idea of creating an e-book where folks could download the step by step instructions which would allow them to be able to create their own cornice, the creator of Easy Cornice had always admired professionally made wooden window cornices and wanted to learn how to make them for herself, comments Jo.

Several years ago, the creator of Easy Cornice decided to research the craft of making wooden window cornices. Reflecting back on how her story first got started, the creator, Jo, remembers how she would frequent home stores. She would go to stores where she took very specific notes as to how a wooden window cornice was assembled.

The creator then took these notes back home and began creating her own wooden cornices. We wanted to be able to share the simple secrets with others, who, for whatever reason, wanted to avoid having to hire a home interior decorator. It really is quite simple for anyone to do and the best part about creating a customized wooden window cornice is that someone doesn’t even need to know how to sew or have any wood working experience or special tools. The creator of Easy Cornice also notes that someone who creates a wooden window cornice can easily save hundreds of dollars on just one average size wooden window cornice.

Step by step instructions can now be viewed and ordered online for $29.95 with an immediate download at www.easycornice.com http://www.easycornice.com

Some interesting facts about cornices: A cornice is considered an ornament that is positioned horizontally at the top of your window with a frame or molding. Cornices always add great value to windows. Cornices highlight and add great depth to any window. There is no comparison to a window without any form of decoration such as a cornice compared to a lifeless and dull, bare window. Depending on the fabric used as well as the size of ones cornice, the cost of a wooden window cornice could easily range anywhere from $300 to more than $1,000 on a single cornice, depending on a professional decorator’s pricing. Another benefit of a window cornice is the upkeep as there really is none, meaning that the cornice will never need to be taken down for cleaning, unless if there is a desire to change the fabric, which can easily be done. Once made, cornices can easily be installed onto your wall with brackets.

A wooden cornice is made from solid wooden construction which is another fine benefit because this means that the cornice will truly last a lifetime. Cornices can be custom-made to fit any window in any home with the homeowners selected style and color and not someone else’s.

Simple step by step instructions with pictures help guide decorators while they will undoubtedly save hundreds of dollars or more, on just one cornice. Making ones own upholstered wooden cornice is easily accessed at www.easycornice.com http://www.easycornice.com where these mentioned step by step instructions can be instantly downloaded with an e-book that allows each decorator to immediately get started on building their own wooden window cornice. If decorators are hesitant about purchasing the entire e-book right away, they have the option of receiving an introductory chapter, complete with pictures, allowing them a sneak peak into the wooden window cornice making process.

Decorators willing to spend some time creating a customized and professional looking wooden cornice will discover just how cost efficient the process is and will be thrilled just knowing how they saved hundreds, if not more on just one simple cornice. Once the process is learned, it can be repeated over and over again as they can just refer to the e-book that was purchased at easycornice.com http://easycornice.com . With this E-Book, you will learn how to easily create your own customized upholstered wooden cornice through step-by-step instructions with detailed pictures that show you how to make your cornice, from A-Z. The instructions will also reveal the planning stage prior to your first step of the actual cornice making process.

Step by step instructions can now be viewed and ordered online for $29.95 with an immediate download at www.easycornice.com http://www.easycornice.com

Where To Get Money For A Franchise Idea

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

How often have you thumbed through a business opportunity magazine, noticed a franchise opportunity advertisement, and felt you’d really like to get in on that…if only you had the money? If you’re like most who are seeking greater opportunity and wealth, this probably happens with you more often than you care to admit, except perhaps in strictly private conversations.

When the average person sees one of these opportunities, or comes up with a similar idea of his own, the problems of start-up capital may seem formidable. But in reality, they may not be. In fact, just about anyone with a good credit record and an insider’s sense of business can get the capital he or she needs, whenever it’s needed. The secret is in knowing how to put together a proper proposal, and to present it to the right per son. These are the how-to instructions we’re going to give you in this report.

The first thing you’re going to need is a complete business plan. This is a complete and detailed description of exactly how you intend to operate the proposed business. Your business plan should detail precisely the product or products you plan to sell; how you’re going to produce or manufacture the product; your costs (inventory costs if you’re purchasing them from a supplier); who is going to sell those products for you; how they’re going to be sold; the attendant costs; when you expect to recoup your initial investment; your plans for growth or expansion; and the total dollar amount you’re going to need to make it all work according to your plan. Your business plan must be detailed - complete with projected income and expense figures - through at least the first three years of business.

Now, assuming you have your business plan all worked out, put together and ready for presentation with your request for capital, let’s talk about your capitalization proposal.

First, keep in mind that whenever you ask somebody for money, whether it’s for a small personal loan or a large amount of money to finance a business, you’re involved in a selling situation. You have to prepare a sales presentation just as if you were getting ready to sell an automobile or refrigerator. Within this sales presentation you must have all the facts and figures; you must anticipate the questions and the possible objections of the prospective lender with answers or explanations; and you must package it as impressively as you would yourself for an audience with the president of IBM or General Motors.

The more money you ask for, the more in-the-know will be the people you want to borrow from, and so the more detailed and organized your proposal must be. This shouldn’t cause you too much worry however, because you can hire a CPA to help you put it together properly, once you’ve got the facts and have a business plan he can work from. Look at it this way: The more money you request for your business, the more your lenders or prospective investors are going to want to know about you, your planning, and your business. They want to be impressed with the fact that you’ve done your homework; they want to see that you’ve researched everything and documented your facts and figures; they want to be assured by your presentation that investing in your business will make money for them. It’s just that simple at the bottom line. Unless you can instill confidence in them with your business plan and loan or investment proposal, they’re just not going to give much positive thought to your request for capitalization.

So you’ll need a balance sheet describing your net worth - the worth of what you own compared to the amount of money you owe. You’ll also have to prove your stability and money-management talents relative to how successful you’ve been in paying off past obligations. If you have had credit problems in the past, get them cleaned up , or at least explained on your file at your local credit bureau office. Under the law, credit bureaus are required to give you all the information they have about you in their files, and it’s your right to correct any errors or enter explanations regarding negative reports on your credit. Do this without fail because prospective lenders or investors will definitely check your credit history.

So, now you have your balance sheet prepared; your credit history organized in a light that’s favorable to you; your business plan (with costs and income projected over the coming three years), you’re ready to start looking for lenders or investors.

Almost all franchisors offer help in setting up with one of their franchises. Most will go out of their way to assist you in getting the financing you need. Some will lend you the entire amount, with payments coming out of the income they expect you to make from their franchise operation. Many will carry this loan themselves, while others will carry part of it and find you a lender to finance the remainder.

Franchisors have two objectives in mind when they offer franchises to the public: They are trying to expand their operation, thus increasing their profit, and they are trying to raise capital for themselves. Generally speaking, if you have a good credit history, and if they feel you have the necessary business personality to achieve success with one of their operations, they’ll do everything within their power to get you in a franchise outlet. Keep this in mind the next time you see an advertisement for a promising franchise opportunity requiring a substantial amount of cash outlay. You don’t necessarily have to have all the money. They want you, and they’ll help you!

Many people seem to be unaware that most of today’s largest corporations started on a shoestring - on borrowed money. Many people seem to feel that unless they’ve got it all in hand in savings, then they’ll just have to keep plugging away until they can save up enough to take the big plunge. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Just a quick bit of research will show that 999 out of every 1,000 businesses were begun on borrowed money.

Look to your family and friends for financial help. Approach them in a business-like manner; tell them about your idea or plans, and ask them for a loan. Agree to sign a formal statement to pay them back in three, five or ten years, with interest.

When you have your proposal assembled, you might even want to think of a limited partnership or even a general partnership arrangement as a way to finance your project. In any kind of partnership, each partner shares in the profits of the company, but in a limited partnership, each person’s loss liability is limited to the amount of money he initially invested. The truth is, in this kind of a situation, you’ll be doing all the work and sharing your gain with your partners, but then it’s a fairly sure way to obtain needed financing.

Another common method of obtaining business financing is through second mortgage loans on a home or existing piece of property. Say you purchased a home ten years ago for $35,000, and today the assessed valuation is $85,000, with a mortgage of $25,000 still outstanding. A lender may consider your home to be security or collateral for a loan up to $60,000. In many instances, this is the easiest and surest way of getting the money needed for franchise or other business investment. And, it makes sense; you’ve got net worth available that is doing nothing but sitting there. Take this equity and invest it in a worthwhile business, and you could double or triple your net worth each year for the rest of your life.

Deciding to obtain a second mortgage on your home in order to finance a business opportunity is without doubt a major decision, but if you are sure about your investment project, and are determined to succeed, you owe it to yourself to go ahead. You could incorporate yourself, borrow money from your family through a second mortgage on your home, and protect against the loss of your home through the Federal Home stead Act. The important point here is that all business opportunities involve risk and sacrifice. It’s up to you to determine the feasibility of your success with your proposed venture, then decide on the best way possible to proceed.

In every instance where you run into reluctance on the part of a lender to lend you the money you need, explore the feasibilities of two-name or co-signed loans. You can have the franchisor sign with you, or one of your suppliers, a business associate or even a friend. Oftentimes you can borrow or rent collateral such as stocks, bonds, time certificates, business equipment or real estate, and in this way give greater confidence to the lender in you r abilities to repay the loan. Whenever you can show a contract from someone who has agreed to purchase a certain number of your products or services over a specified period of time, you have another important piece of paper that most lenders will accept as collateral. Still an other possibility might be to get a bank or a firm that has loaned you money in the past to guarantee your loan. They simply guarantee that they’ll lend you money in the future if ever the need should arise.

Going straight to you neighborhood bank, applying for a business loan and walking out with the money is just about the most unlikely of all your possibilities. Banks want to lend money, and they must lend money in order to stay in business, but most banks are notoriously conservative and extremely reluctant to lend you money unless you have a regular income that guarantees repayment. If and when you approach a bank for a business loan, you’ll need all your papers in order - your financial statement, your business plan, credit history and all the endorsements you can get relative to your succeeding with your planned enterprise. In addition, it would be a good idea to take along your accountant just to assure the banker that your plan is verifiable. In the end, you’ll find that it all boils down to whether or not the bank officer studying your application is sold on you as a good credit risk. Thus you must impress the banker - not only with your proposal, but with your appearance and personality as well. In dealing with bankers, never show an attitude of doubt or apology. Always be positive and sure of yourself. However, don’t come on so strong to them that you’re either demanding or overbearing. Just look good, know your stuff, and project an attitude of determination to succeed.

Your best bet, in attempting to get a business loan from a bank, is to deal with commercial banks. These are the banks that specialize in investment loans for going businesses, real estate construction, and even venture programs. Look in the yellow pages of your telephone or business directories; call and ask for an appointment with the manager; and then explore with him the possibilities of a loan for your project. One of the nice things about commercial banks is that even though they may not be able to approve a loan for your business ideas, they will almost always give you a list of names of business people who might be interested in looking over your proposal for investment purposes.

A lot of commercial banks stage investment lectures and seminars for the general public. If you find one that does, attend. You’ll meet a lot of local business people, some of whom may be able to and interested in helping you with your business plans.

When you’re looking for money to move on a business deal, it does not really matter where the money comes from, or how it all comes about. It’s important that you get the money, and at terms that are suitable to you. Thus, don’t overlook the possibilities of an advertisement for a lender or investor in your local papers. Place your ad as well in national publications reaching people looking for investments. Other avenues to seriously consider are foundations that offer grants, local dental and medical investment groups, legal investment groups, business associations, trust companies and other groups or organizations looking for tax shelters.

Basically, it isn’t a good idea to go to a finance company or other commercial lender of this type for a business loan. The most obvious reason is the high interest rates you have to pay. These companies borrow money from larger money lenders, and then turn around and lend it to you at a higher interest rate than they pay. Herein lies the means by which they make money from granting loans to you. The more it costs them to provide the money for you, the more it’s going to cost you to borrow their money. The only element in your favor when borrowing from one of these agencies is that most will generally lend you money against collateral other lenders just won’t accept. Insurance companies, pension funds, and commercial paper houses are not too out of sight with their interest rates, but they generally will not even consider talking to you unless you’re requesting $500,000 or more. They’ll also pretty much require that your business proposal be backed by the best possible plan.

Finally, the bottom line is this: You must have a well-researched and detailed business plan; you must have all your documents and projections put together in an impressive presentation; and then, you will have to be the one who does the final selling of your proposal to the investor or lender. This means your appearance, personality and attitude, because - make no mistake about it - before anyone lends you any size able amount of money, they’re going to want to take a close look at you personally before they hand over the money.

Actually, the different ways of financing a franchise opportunity are as many and varied as your own creativity. The sources of obtaining money are virtually limitless, and available to anyone with an idea.

One word of caution before you jump into any franchise purchase agreement: The price you pay to participate in a franchise operation is not always the total cost involved in getting the business off the ground. With some franchise operations, you may find other costs such as down payments on the purchase of property, building construction costs, remodeling or site improvements, equipment, fixtures, signs, advertising, and training. Virtually all franchise deals require that in addition to the purchase price or the license fee of the franchise, you’re required to give a certain percentage of your gross business income to the franchisor, plus extra payments for promotion and administrative costs. Above all else, before you get involved in a franchise, or any business venture for that matter, make sure you’ve conducted a complete and thorough investigation of the opportunity presented. If it’s a good deal, then go with it; but if you have any doubts or feel as though you’re getting in over your head, back off and look around for something not quite so ambitious, or perhaps expensive.

There are a lot of good franchise opportunities, and some not so good. It’s important that you be sure of what you’re investing in, and that you can make money with it. From there, preparing the proper business plan and the necessary financing, while not always a snap, can be done. Now’s the time to do it! We wish you outstanding success with your franchise business.

Classy Store Fixtures Add Pizzaz To Any Retail Display

March 30th, 2008 by advicestore

Ever look into a window of a store only to be bored and underwhelmed? Excitement and interest are key components to the success of any retail display. The merchandise must certainly be interesting and inviting to get you into the store. However, the store fixtures can add interest also and are as much of the retail store presentation and its ultimate merchandising success as the product line itself.

Retail merchandising has always been about creating interest and some buzz about the product being sold. When buying at wholesale and reselling, the store owner has got to provide some excitement in order to get buyers interested and ultimately buying. Today’s fixtures are not just the standard chrome or painted white shelves of the past. The store owner has an array of classy display units to choose from to create an interesting display to grab and hold the customers’ interest.

Retail fixtures now come in many styles. If you have a gift or accessories store, consider using some of the wrought iron bakers racks and display racks. These units are available with wire, wood and glass shelves to accommodate most small product lines. A variety of wholesale vendors have fixtures and display racks readily available ranging from classic old world designs to ultra modern styling. Pick a style that fits your store and then arrange merchandise in an interesting and inviting fashion. While chrome and basic black are good standbys when unsure of color direction, you can choose a color theme like gold, rust finish or other popular tone to enhance the look in your store.

Shelves and shelf style are an important choice also when choosing store fixtures. If you have a plant store or are merchandising baskets, racks or fixtures with wire shelves might be the right choice for you. Other small items like small decorative accessories display well on glass shelves. Glass allows light to pass through each shelf and does not create an extremely dark area near the bottom of the unit. While this can be offset with spot lighting in the store, the retailer generally needs all the available light to properly display retail merchandise. Wood, metal and other solid surface shelves can provide a great deal of weight bearing capacity but as mentioned limit the amount of light available near the floor to display merchandise. Choose your fixtures based on the type of merchandise your are displaying.

While plain white metal shelves are great for selling cereal, they leave much to be desired when selling collectibles and decorative accessories. Jane does not have to Plain when it comes to the retail store environment. Jazz it up a little buy choosing display fixtures with class and style to enhance your products. Inject some interest into your merchandising presentations and you will have a store filled with customers and a fat bottom line. Don’t worry about “Where Are My Customers.” Instead concern yourself with more important details like making sure you have a good supply of printing tape for the cash register.
